Helping Women Walk Away
Womens Aid
Christina Sherlock was the entire Fundraising & Communications department at Women's Aid, when she approached us at a conference in 2018.
But she'd seen something. She had read the Facebook comments and noticed the shares. She understood that a lot of women in Ireland had strong feelings about domestic abuse and wanted to take action.
When we launched our first walking challenge, one line seemed to resonate in the Facebook ads copy; walk to help women walk away.
The Facebook group was supportive, beautiful and eye-opening.
Christina worked late to pack the t-shirts in a dusty, unused room on the top floor of the office, which was nicknamed 'the attic'.
That first walking challenge raised €150,000. And we've spent the last 5 years harnessing the power and passion of the Women's Aid audience with squats, jogging and swimming challenges.
Now, incredibly, Christina leads a team of six Fundraising & Communications staff who work in 'the attic'... a newly renovated office space filled with light and hope.
"The income has been spectacular. I kept asking if we should aim lower than €150,000, but that's what we raised on Facebook in a month.
I'm amazed that we're still raising that much money in a month in 2024.
We're a small domestic violence charity and the money has made such a difference. We've added to our frontline services.
Suggestions that have been a 'No' for years are now happening. It's amazing to see."
